Humanitarian situation
According to the United Nations, Yemen is home to one of the world’s most serious humanitarian crises, which has escalated repeatedly since the beginning of the conflict in Yemen in March 2015.
Of Yemen’s approximately 32 million inhabitants, 19.5 million people are dependent on humanitarian assistance in 2025, of whom roughly 23 percent are women and 53 percent are children.
The number of internally displaced persons stands at around 4.5 million. Moreover, Yemen was a country of reception and, in particular, of transit for around 90,000 refugees in 2023, including from Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
