The energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables is the focus of the eleventh Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD). There are three main reasons to keep driving the expansion of renewables worldwide.

At the Federal Foreign Office, businesses and NGOs will meet decision-makers from over 40 countries to discuss the energy supply of the future.

For a future-fit economy

The BETD brings together people who recognise the opportunities that the global energy transition provides. Countries around the world are focusing, just like Germany, on renewable energies as the foundation for future prosperity. The energy transition is a powerful driver of forward-looking investment and new jobs. This makes the BETD an important event for businesses to network with key stakeholders from around the world and access foreign markets.

The market is clearly pointing to renewables. In 2024, on a global level, investments in clean energies and infrastructure were nearly twice as high as investments in fossil energies.
- Annalena Baerbock

For climate action

Renewable energies can help to curb global warming and reach the aim of halving emissions by 2030. There are many exemplary ideas and solutions at local level around the world, and the BETD offers a space for solutions-oriented exchange and discussion. The green transformation will protect people and the resources that they depend on worldwide. No country will be spared the effects of the climate crisis, and the costs of climate-driven disasters are immense – parched fields in Morocco or Somalia, flooding in Spain or Pakistan, fires in California or the Amazon.

For greater security and resilience

The impact of the climate crisis stretches to our security, too. When resources become scarce or people are displaced due to climate damage, existing conflicts worsen and new ones break out. Climate action makes our world safer, and the global energy transition is a cornerstone of this action. At the same time, by cutting fossil imports we can reduce our dependencies and vulnerabilities, which have been thrown into stark relief by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Focusing on renewables makes us more resilient and less vulnerable to blackmail, and our energy supply more independent of geopolitical developments.
